Splints in prosthodontics – a literature review

Occlusal splints are also called as occlusal appliances, biteguards, mouthguards, orthotics, interocclusal appliances. Occlusal splint therapy is used as both diagnostic and treatment appliance for temporo-mandibular disorders and occlusion related disorders. The aim of this article is to provide an insight on various types of splints being used in the eld of prosthodontics, indications and the rationale for use.
