Geological Carbon Storage at the University of Bergen, Norway

The time-lapsed image series show CO2 injection in a layered sandstone system modelled using unconsolidated sand of various grain sizes. This laboratory experiment mimics an upwards fining reservoir offset by a central clay-smear fault. The pore space was initially saturated with water and pH-sensitive dyes. Gaseous CO2 in the system appear bright, whereas other colors reflect the CO2 concentration in the aqueous phase (green = zero; red = high). The injection rate was 10 ml/min of gaseous CO2 for 1 hour.
