Corrosion protection properties of pineapple (Ananas comosus) leaves nanocellulose reinforced in epoxy nanocomposite coatings on mild steel

In this study, epoxy resin-based nanocomposite coatings with various amounts of nanocellulose loadings (0.5, 1.0, 1.5, and 2.0 wt%) from pineapple leaves were prepared for corrosion protection of mild steel. The effects of nanocellulose content on the corrosion protection performance of epoxy coatings were investigated by potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) technique in a 3.5% NaCl solution. Electrochemical results revealed a significant improvement in the corrosion resistance of epoxy coating with the addition of nanocellulose. The results indicate that the epoxy coatings with 2 wt% nanocellulose exhibit high anticorrosive performance.
