Self-care towards the end of life: A systematic review and narrative synthesis on access, quality and cost

Self-care plays an increasingly important role in how people live and die with disease. Advances in digital health and technology have meant that some services traditionally provided in hospitals and clinics can now take place in patients’ own homes. This paper systematically reviews and appraises the current evidence on the practice of self-care (self-monitoring and self-management) of life-limiting conditions, how it is viewed by patients and carers, and its outcomes: healthcare utilisation, quality of life, and associated care costs.
