A Simple Cable Equation

Abstract The cable equation was first derived to model transport of electrical signals in telegraphic cables. But it later gained enormous popularity as a model of transport of electrical signals along a neuronal axon. In Chapter 9, we will discuss how this equation is derived and how the different terms in the equation come about. But here, we will just take a simple version of the equations for granted and then try to solve them. We will observe that the few techniques we learned above are actually sufficient to solve the non-linear reaction-diffusion equations we consider here.
