摘要

Introduction

Cerebral venous thrombosis (CVT) is a rare cause of stroke and his endovascular treatment (EVT) has not yet been shown to be beneficial.

Aim of Study

Our aim is to retrospectively evaluate the safety and efficacy of the EVT in the management of CVT.

Methods

Clinical, neuroimaging, procedural and FUP data were evaluated in order to define the safety and efficacy of the EVT in the management of CVT between January 2016 and December 2022. Safety was assessed recording the intra-procedural and periprocedural adverse events. Functional outcomes (NIHSS, mRS) and the neuroimaging were recorded at the onset, at the discharge and at 6 months FUP. Efficacy was assessed evaluating the recanalization rate at the end of the procedure.

Results

21 Patients (17 female, 4 male, range 16–84 years) with CVT underwent EVT. Median NIHSS at the onset and the discharge were respectively 10 and 2. Successful recanalization was achieved in 21/23 procedures (91,3%). Imaging FUP showed stable recanalization in all the patient with a successful recanalization. In 18/21 a good clinical independence (MRS 0–2) was recorded at 6 months.

Conclusion

Since the advent of EVT for the AIS, the improvement of the devices and the endovascular techniques have increased, opening a new scenario for the treatment of the CVT in terms of efficacy and safety. Our study add evidence on the safety and efficacy of the endovascular techniques in the treatment of CVT.
