Abstract
Mathematical optimization has become an important tool in many areas and the list of applications is constantly expanding. In most applications, mathematical optimization assists with decision-making. It is helpful for a designer of a certain object or system, for a system operator who oversees the process, checks the results and, if necessary, adjusts the problem model or approach to the solution. Such a decision-maker needs to direct all activities related to the optimization problem, such as buying or selling, to achieve optimal profits. Optimization problems proved to be significant both in engineering facilities design and their realization as well as in a design stage of technological processes and their operation.
