Abstract
Abstract Purpose: To verify the association between single nucleotide polymorphisms in GDF5 and lumbar disc degeneration. Methods: A complemnetary search was peformed and related information was collected for meta analysis. And a case-control study which involving a number of 46 patients and 45 controls. Results: There is a significant association between GDF5 rs143383 and LDD under heterozygous models in Asian. Among SNPs in GDF5, distribution of rs224329 genotype is obviously different between VAS< 4 and VAS≥ 4 groups. And the results of linkage disequilibrium analysis show a strong relationship of rs224329 and rs143383. Conclusions: Among SNPs in GDF5, rs143383 was significantly associated with LDD in Asian, while rs224329 was considered to be related to chronic low back pain.
