Abstract
Download : Download full-size image The advancements and developments in nanotechnology that have occurred in the last few decades highlight the enormous potential of carbon nanomaterials for its application in biomedical therapy. Carbon nanoparticles possess unique intrinsic properties that can have a broad range of applications in therapeutics. These therapeutic applications range from diagnostics and drug delivery to tissue regeneration and stem cell therapy. The possibility of versatile chemical functionalization allows it to be disease-specific and hence is a crucial advantage to eliminate side effects. This chapter aims to sum up the current trends in the various applications of different carbon-based materials such as carbon nanotubes, nanofibers, nanodiamonds, carbon dots, graphene, and fullerenes, based on recent studies and research in the field. It highlights especially how these functionalized nanomaterials are being utilized for therapeutic applications.
