Abstract
Non-invasive physiological sensing systems promise to reduce the overall cost of care, increase the accessibility and quality of care through long-term monitoring, and have the potential to reduce health disparities. This article outlines the process of designing and developing noninvasive physiological sensing systems providing actionable information relevant to clinical practice. We outline the essential steps of creating a problem statement and development strategy based on the underlying physiology, and highlight elements of hardware design, experimental design and data analysis particular to implementing and validating novel systems.
