摘要
Metal ions are essential in biologic activities, so they are applied for the therapy or diagnosis of diseases is medicinal inorganic chemistry. The drugs involving metals in them are generally known as metallodrugs and have grown constantly during the past 5 decades in the field of medicinal inorganic chemistry. One such metal involved is manganese (Mn), which is a key component in biologic systems as it is found to be a cofactor for many enzymes like Mn-superoxide dismutase, catalase, Mn-ribonucleotide reductase, Mn-peroxidase, etc. Therefore, the Mn complexes tend to be of utmost significance due to their structural characteristics, magnetic properties, and widespread applications in various fields. This chapter particularly highlights the chemistry, synthesis, and analytical techniques used in the binding studies and the uses of Mn complexes with deoxyribonucleic acid, ribonucleic acid, and other biomolecules especially serum albumins (HSA/BSA), topoisomerases (Topo I/Topo II), etc., as interacting agents. We believe that this chapter explores the insights of manganese complexes as potent metallodrugs for various clinical applications and develops an interest in this area for future new potential manganese complexes with potential medicinal properties for cancer or tumor cells and many other diseases.
