Addressing the Preceptor Gap in Nurse Practitioner Education

The shortage of qualified preceptors in nurse practitioner (NP) education is a pressing issue that creates numerous challenges for clinical training experiences. This article examines the impact of the preceptor gap on NP students during their clinical placements, as well as the potential consequences on the future NP workforce. We outline strategies for preceptor recruitment and retention, including partnerships, incentives, support, and communication. Addressing the preceptor gap is crucial to ensuring a skilled NP workforce and providing quality patient care.
