Abstract
The global pandemic has aggravated the challenges of food insecurity, compromising the harvesting, processing, and delivery of essential crops and produce. In response, policymakers, practitioners, and other experts have increased their efforts to re-evaluate existing food systems, and although many substantive recommendations have been proposed, they have not been presented holistically. This review attempts to address this issue by summarizing the wide-ranging impact of COVID-19 on food security in developed countries and compiling prevalent recommendations. The aim of the present review is to contribute to the body of literature accessible to non-academics who are involved in the discussions around food insecurity, including farmers, ranchers, local politicians and policymakers, stakeholders, etc. We find that every discipline, perspective, and organization plays an important role in combatting food insecurity and call for a renewed focus on undervalued solutions.
