Abstract
•Patient factors contributing to complexity include: age >65 years, diabetes, poor cognition, neuropathy and poor baseline mobility.•Specialist surgical techniques are less commonly used than would be expected.•Wound and VTE complications following HFN/TTC nails are similar when compared to standard ORIF.•Higher complication rates were observed with fusion nails than those used for fixation only.
