Invasive neurotechnology for neurodevelopmental disorders

Neurodevelopmental disorders (NDDs) encompass a broad group of conditions that arise during the developmental period of children and adolescents and can interfere with social, occupational and academic functioning. Novel invasive neurosurgical interventions and neurotechnologies are increasingly being considered and used to treat refractory NDDs and the indications for these interventions is expanding. As the use of invasive neurotechnologies evolve and expand, it is critical that the neuroethical implications of their use be explored and anticipated in this uniquely vulnerable population.
