Abstract
Crowdsourcing initiatives have been used in diverse domains. When user-generated data is the foundation of the crowdsourced application, users need to engage with it and not use it sporadically. For a solution to have strong engagement from design, we developed an 18-card deck as part of a design thinking approach. This approach offers domain-specific insights to designers in crowdsourcing initiatives. We applied the cards in a study where we analyzed five online design workshops and reflected on the results from the perspective of 14 facilitators and 17 workshop participants. The results generated ideas that were evaluated by the crowd through online surveys. With that was possible to visualize how engagement was thought using the Engagement by Design methodology in different crowdsourcing initiatives.
