Event-related potentials and gamma oscillations in EEG as functional diagnostic biomarkers and outcomes in autism spectrum disorder treatment research

There is a need to explore neurophysiological metrics that can serve as potential autism biomarkers that can be used as valid functional diagnostic and treatment outcome measures. Series of our studies suggests that the search for quantitative electroencephalographic biomarkers of executive function abnormalities and other behavioral performance deficits present in ASD is a useful research strategy that may contribute to better understanding of nosology of this neurodevelopmental disorder and may lead to the development of novel functional diagnostic tools.
