Abstract
The present work offers a comparison of the maximum fluid film pressure across various flow control mechanisms that are utilized in combination with journal bearings. The FEM has been employed to solve the governing differential equation for an electrorheological fluid (ER) operated hybrid journal bearing. The results indicate that journal bearings lubricated with ER fluid have demonstrated higher pressure values in comparison to those lubricated with Newtonian fluid. Additionally, when compared to alternative restrictors for the chosen input parameters, journal bearing compensation using a capillary restrictor has exhibited superior performance in terms of fluid film pressure. Conversely, bearings compensated with constant flow valve restrictors have shown poor performance.
