摘要
In Europe the Middle Ages are a period between 500 and 1500 CE. Situated between Antiquity and Modernity, they are characterized by regional and temporal changes. Since the 20th century, archaeology has played an ever-increasing role in research—extending, improving and challenging reconstructions based only on written records. Villages, towns and castles constitute the main subjects of Medieval archaeology. The agenda also includes the environment and landscapes, economy, religion, mobility and society.
