Race, ethnicity, and socioeconomic status in the context of food allergy-related psychosocial functioning

Food allergy can have a significant impact on the lives of patients and families, and these experiences may differ across racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic groups. A literature review was conducted to identify publications about food allergy-related psychosocial functioning that included race, ethnicity, and/or socioeconomic status analyses. Three-hundred forty-eight publications met eligibility criteria for review, of which 14 included analyses pertaining to race/ethnicity and 28 included analyses pertaining to socioeconomic status. Findings were mixed, but research into these relationships was uncommon so it is too early to draw conclusions. Additional research in this area is needed.
