Abstract
( BJOG . 2022;129:1899–906) Maternity services vary widely worldwide. A recent independent review of the National Health Service (NHS) in England looked at what may have been avoidable harm during births between 2000 and 2019. The review found that cesarean delivery (CD) rates were discouraged and intentionally kept low. In response, this study aimed to determine if there was an association between induction of labor and emergency CD in English hospitals and an increased risk of stillbirth, use of neonatal mechanical ventilation in babies born at term, and admission to a neonatal intensive care unit (ICU).
