A Review of Theories of Information Across Disciplines

Information systems is a strong and ever-growing field/discipline of enormous relevance to today’s ‘informed’ world, and yet, as reviews as recent as 2023 have shown, there is still not an agreed and explicit conceptualisation or definition of information. This chapter extends the evaluative review in Chapter 1 , by introducing and assessing more recent theories across disciplines, as a clearing ground for developing (in Chapter 5 ) a consistent theory of information usable in Section 2 when we develop an integrative semiotic approach.
