Abstract
Osteoporotic fractures become increasingly prevalent with aging. Additionally, osteoporosis in old age is associated with a substantial burden in terms of morbidity, loss of mobility, and mortality. Nevertheless, this condition continues to be underdiagnosed and undertreated in older persons. In this chapter, the epidemiology and diagnosis of osteoporosis in older patients are discussed, followed by a summary of the evidence about the efficacy and safety of the pharmacological management of osteoporosis in older patients.
