Abstract
The present work seeks to develop materials and structures with temperature-dependent magnetic properties providing optimal sensitivity for near-room temperature thermometry. Studies of the electrodeposition of Pt 1-x M x (M=Ni,Co) alloys will be presented. The effects of boric acid and deposition potential on the deposition process and magnetic properties of Pt 1-x Ni x and Pt 1-x Co x films will be compared. For Pt 1-x Ni x , it was found that the presence of boric acid during deposition was accompanied by decreased Coulombic efficiency at more reducing deposition potentials, increased oxygen incorporation, and decreased magnetization relative to films deposited in the absence of boric acid.[1] Preliminary results for the Pt 1-x Co x system indicate its behavior is not simply analogous to the Pt 1-x Ni x system.
