Carbon-based materials have many applications in energy storage devices, including batteries and electrochemical capacitors. These materials are sourced from a wide range of raw materials. This project focuses on finding and evaluating electrochemical applications for porous carbon-based materials made from domestic sources. This presentation will focus on our efforts to develop and characterize these porous (at different scales) carbon materials, and on several emerging energy storage applications being investigated at Ohio University. Comparisons with other porous energy storage materials will be made in consideration of process economics and performance.
