Abstract
This paper describes the design and development of two novel disulfone-carbonate polymeric materials for swift solid state nuclear track detection applications. A monomer 2,2'-(oxybis(ethylenesulfonyl))diallylcarbonate (OESDAC) has been synthesized and characterized by IR spectroscopy, NMR spectroscopy, and HR-mass spectrometry. POESDAC homopolymer and copolymers of OESDAC with allyl diglycol carbonate (ADC) were successfully investigated for the first time for swift detection of charged particles. Here, the kinetics of polymerization of OESDAC-ADC (1:1 w/w) monomer composition has been studied to generate 12-h constant rate heating profile by extending reported Dial's kinetic model. Furthermore, correlation study was performed to check the effectiveness of the polymerization profile. These experimental results were well supported by linear correlation coefficient (R2) of 0.9989, obtained from calculated yields at given time. Preliminary observations regarding the performance, track etching property and alpha sensitivity of these polymeric detectors were studied and compared with the indigenous PADC and commercially available CR-39 detector.
