Fast neutron detection has been regarded as a significant method for gas evaluation in the casing. However, the complexity of offshore field completion and the uncertainty of annulus fluid present a significant problem that must be addressed. This will lead to small differences in reservoir gas-liquid information to increase the uncertainty of logging. In this paper, a new fast neutron detection method is proposed to calculate gas saturation. Combining the inelastic gamma-ray counts, the capture gamma-ray count ratio and inelastic gamma-ray count ratio from different detectors, a new characterization of the fast neutron cross-section can achieve self-compensation under borehole gas-bearing and the complex completion.Note: This paper was accepted into the Technical Program but was not presented at IMAGE 2022 in Houston, Texas. Keywords: complex cased borehole, pulsed neutron logging, gas saturation evaluation, fast neutron cross-sectionPermalink: https://doi.org/10.1190/image2022-3750434.1FiguresReferencesRelatedDetails Second International Meeting for Applied Geoscience & EnergyISSN (print):1052-3812 ISSN (online):1949-4645Copyright: 2022 Pages: 3694 publication data© 2022 Published in electronic format with permission by the Society of Exploration Geophysicists and the American Association of Petroleum GeologistsPublisher:Society of Exploration Geophysicists HistoryPublished Online: 15 Aug 2022 CITATION INFORMATION Guiping Xiao, Feng Zhang, Jilin Fan, Fangwei Tang, and Wei Zheng Shang, (2022), "A quantitatively determining gas saturation method by pulsed neutron logging technique in complex cased borehole," SEG Technical Program Expanded Abstracts : 307-311. https://doi.org/10.1190/image2022-3750434.1 Plain-Language Summary Keywordscomplex cased boreholepulsed neutron logginggas saturation evaluationfast neutron cross-sectionPDF DownloadLoading ...
