Abstract
This paper describes a design and characteristics of a record high optical output power pigtailed-OSFP ELS employing an uncooled 8-channel CWDM TOSA for Co-Packaged Optics. An OSFP housing has a bigger mechanical size compared with a QSFP housing and thus an OSFP housing accept increasing power consumption to obtain higher optical output power. Based on thermal simulations, characteristics of LD temperature and case temperature of the TOSA are anticipated with an ambient temperature of $40{}^{\circ} \mathrm{C}$ and an air flow rate of 3.75 CFM. The maximum LD temperature is as high as 620 $\text{mA}$ to keep an LD temperature of $\leq 65\ {}^{\circ} \mathrm{C}$ . To output record fiber-coupled optical power of 22 dBm per channel, a required LD bias current is $\leq 550$ mA, whereby power consumption and a PCE are 10.3 $\mathrm{W}$ and 12.3%, respectively.
