Abstract
Diabetes mellitus is one of the most common non-communicable metabolic disorders characterized by chronic hyperglycemia or increased blood glucose levels with disturbances in carbohydrate, fat and protein metabolism resulting from the absolute or relative lack of insulin secretion.1,2 A class of structurally novel (Z)-3-((1-aryl-1H-1,2,3-triazol-4-yl)methyl)-5-((E)-3-arylallylidene)thiazolidine-2,4-dione derivatives have been synthesised. A hybrid pharmacophoric approach is adopted in which 1,2,3-triazole and thiazolidine-2,4-dione nuclei is hybridized in one structure hopping to synergize the anti-diabetic potential of both groups. The structure of all the newly synthesized hybrids were confirmed by spectroscopic analysis (IR, 1H-NMR, MS). Density functional theory (DFT) studies of the cyclised products and their probable isomers have been carried out to predict the geometry of the cyclised product.
