The entire world is currently witnessing one of the biggest disease outbreaks of the century. The COVID-19 outbreak which has been pronounced as a pandemic by the World Health Organization has affected the lives of individuals, organizations and the society at large. As a result of this crisis, a lot of employees now rely on their mobile phones, laptops and access to the internet to work remotely from home. Moreover, most businesses are now being done online to reduce physical interaction. The health sector is not left out with increase in teleconsultation and telemanagement. Most schools have gone digital to ensure learning is not impaired. All these conditions have led to a sudden rise in the use of internet technologies and indirectly to an increase in cybercrimes. Cyber criminals have seized the opportunity to attack individuals and organizations to perpetrate a lot of evil using various techniques. This paper gives an overview of various cyber security threats carried out during the COVID-19 pandemic and presents an analysis of cybercrimes in Nigeria. In conclusion, some techniques of detecting and avoiding these threats even after the pandemic are recommended so that damage caused by cybercrimes can be curtailed.
