Neurologic manifestations in sars-cov-2 infected patients

COVID-19 pandemic is reaching a long-time non seen global impact, counting more than 3 million cases world-wide SARS-CoV-2 virus, responsible for COVID-19 infection, belong to Coronaviridae virus family This family, beyond its usual respiratory manifestation, appears to have neurotropism, causing various neurologic manifestations So, there is an urge to alert neurologists for this topic, as they could face it in nowadays clinical practise We purpose to review in this article the current available data on neurologic mani-festations, possible physiopathological mechanisms and other relevant information related to SARS-CoV-2 infection, essential for a general neurologist Until this moment, most common reported neurologic symptoms were dizziness, headache, myalgias, fatigue, and encephalopathy, which ones could only be secondary to systemic inflammation On other hand, frequent occurrence of hyposmia, hy-pogeusia and reports of encephalitis, acute polyneuropathies and strokes, highlight predilection for the nervous system, particularly in severely ill patients Although there are only a few and early reports, this data point to possible SARS-CoV-2 central and peripheric nervous system and even muscle involvement, as in others coronavirus infections Nevertheless, it is still unknown the real range of neurologic manifestation, being necessary prospective studies and clinical cases in order to provide more detail data, possible pathogenic mechanisms and therapeutic options
