Research on Electromagnetic Transient Modeling and Simulation of Power Grid with Large Scale BESS and New Energy

With the continuous promotion of the new power system, the proportion of new energy connected to the power system is continuously rising. The energy storage technology can effectively solve the power fluctuation issues and operation scheduling problems caused by large-scale new energy connected to the power grid. In recent years, Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) have continued to developing at a high speed, and the installed capacity has repeatedly reached new highs. With the large-scale BESS connecting into the system, the proportion of power electronic devices continues to increase, making the security and stability control of the power grid more complex. At present, there is a lack of refined modeling and simulation of electromagnetic transient in large-scale power grid with large-scale energy storage devices. EMT simulation has objective advantages in simulating the operation characteristics of large-scale power grid with high promotion of power electronic equipment. Therefore, based on the New Generation of Digital Analog Hybrid Simulation Platform in the State Grid Simulation Center, a detailed EMT real-time simulation model of a power system with large-scale new energy and large-scale BESS was constructed, and based on this model, the operating characteristics of the power grid after severe AC/DC faults in the system that battery energy storage in charging conditions were studied.
