Research on Pulse Transformer Trigger Based on Weakening the Influence of Stray Parameters

The output pulse performance of the Marx generator will be impacted when a pulse trigger is used to trigger it, hence the pulse trigger's design must be optimized. When the pulse transformer trigger is selected, the effects of two stray parameters, winding leakage inductance and distributed capacitance, on the output pulse's amplitude, trigger delay time and the steepness of the front edge are analyzed through the pulse transformer model. Based on this, the magnetic core material and winding layout of the pulse transformer are determined, which significantly reduces the adverse effects of stray parameters. The final simulation produced a pulse that realizes the ideal design of the pulse transformer trigger, with a front edge less than 30ns, a half-width bigger than 200ns, and an amplitude of 50kV. A pulse trigger unit prototype was also manufactured to test the output pulse waveform.
