Assessment of Biologic Use in the Treatment of Patients with Hidradenitis Suppurativa in the VA Health Care System

Background: Increased age- and group-specific incidence of hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) has been observed amongst 18-29 year-olds, women, and Black communities. A recent publication utilizing the Explorys database found overall low rates of biologic use and statistically significant differences in biologic prescription patterns amongst sex, race, and stratified age groups [1]. To date, there have been no studies on the prevalence of HS in the Veteran Affairs Health Care System (VAHCS). Our hypothesis was that similar biologic prescription patterns would be observed in the VAHCS.
