摘要
•Xylocopid bees were the only pollinators of four commercially important Cyclopia species (C. maculata, C. subternata, C. intermedia and C. genistoides).•Honey bees were ineffective pollinators of Cyclopia owing to their inability to trip Cyclopia flowers and gain access to the floral reproductive parts.•Nectar measurements revealed low volume of nectar production with varied sugar concentration across species of Cyclopia.•The value of native non-Apis insects for crop pollination in a changing world is highlighted in Cyclopia.
