Abstract
Increased capacitive earth fault currents due to the high level of overhead line cabling step-up demands for safe and reliable operation of compensated networks. The safety of compensated networks is closely related to residual current value. Last year, experimental measurements were carried out to verify the accuracy of a new method of residual current estimation by a regulator of an arc-suppression coil. The results of the experimental measurements proved that this method might be very accurate under some conditions. The main aim of this research paper is to present the results of an analysis that has been conducted to compare two methods from which the residual current can be determined. The emphasis is also put on the principle of operation of the newly designed function for a regulator of the arc-suppression coil.
