Study on Verification Test of Pulse Charges Versus Pulse Amplitude in Ultra-Wide-Band PD Detection

“Ultra-wide-band instruments for PD detection” were defined in IEC 60270, but the bandwidth of such instruments and the measurement method were not regulated in the standard. In this paper, the apparent charge calibration based on conventional pulse current method (recommended in IEC 60270) was briefly described, and the statement about the bandwidth of ultra-wide-band PD detection was made. The experimental platform for verification of pulse charges versus discharge amplitude was established for serving ultra-wide-band (10kHz∼50MHz) PD detection, and pulse sources generating pulses with 10∼10000pC or 1∼100pC were used to carry out the verification tests. It turned out that, for ultra-wide-band PD detection, only in part of above two pulse charge ranges, the pulse amplitude was basically in a linear relationship with pulse charge.
