2023 marks the 100th anniversary of the death of Wilhelm Conrad Rontgen. This article traces the biography of the discoverer of the X-rays named after him. The aim is deliberately not to tell the "story of a brilliant discoverer", but rather to shed light on the essentials - the person Conrad Rontgen, who was much more than the discoverer of X-rays, namely determined, modest and quiet.
