Development and glycolysis dependence

Proper embryonic development depends not only on highly regulated genetic programs but also on the metabolic state that may influence gene function. In the particular case of glycolysis, once viewed merely as an energy supply pathway, it is considered far more than that nowadays. In this chapter, we aim to report the current knowledge regarding the role of the glycolytic pathway during embryonic development. Briefly, we will address how metabolism coordinates embryonic development through metabolic rewiring to cope with developmental programs, metabolism-signaling interactions, and metabolic transcriptional and epigenetic control during development. This topic is a promising area that will certainly lead to new and exciting findings that will enrich our knowledge about embryonic development.
