Abstract
( Acta Obstet Gynecol Scand . 2021;100:1273–1279) Between 2005 and 2017 cardiovascular diseases (CVD) accounted for the most common cause of maternal death in Nordic countries. This increased maternal mortality is likely associated with a rise in pregnant women with congenital and acquired CVD, but in nearly 60% of deaths, there was no known CVD. The current study objective was to identify the incidence and type of CVD contributing to the cause of maternal death, and identify points of substandard care to improve clinical management and reduce CVD-related mortality.
