Control systems with compact-RIO implementation

This article provides a concise explanation about the deployment of control methods in Compact-RIO (cRIO). To do so, firstly, the platform-based systems of the National Instruments are introduced briefly in plain language with a specific attention to cRIO. In the second step, some examples of implementing different control methods in cRIO for different electrical energy systems are reviewed. Thirdly, the control design procedure in Laboratory Virtual Instrument Engineering Workbench (LabVIEW), which is the programming environment of the cRIO, along with the available methods and tools is summarized. The main purpose of this third stage is to offer the readers a systematic viewpoint on the existing control LabVIEW, which is used to program the cRIO. Finally, a practical example about the implementation of a control method for regulating the performance of a proton exchange membrane fuel cell is provided before drawing a conclusion.
