Abstract
Abstract β-Conglycinin is one of the components of soy bean protein. Many reports indicated the lowering effect of blood triglyceride level, body fat content, and improvement of obesity-induced metabolic abnormalities. In this review, we focused the relationship between β-conglycinin and modulation of glucose uptake in skeletal muscle. The glucose transporter-4 (GLUT4) translocation through AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) activation promoted by β-conglycinin result in insulin saving. The decrease of insulin may affect to fatty acid synthesis in the liver via sterol regulatory-element binding protein 1 suppression. Although the mechanism of AMPK activation brought by β-conglycinin is unclear, β-conglycinin plays a key role to improvement of glucose metabolism in skeletal muscle.
