摘要
Superficial fungal infection (SFI) is one of the most common infections in the world. Mostly, SFI is caused by dermatophytes molds followed by yeast genus Malassezia and Candida. Additionally, based on reported cases, there has been an increase of SFI caused by non-Candida yeast and non-dermatophytic molds not only in immunodeficient patients, but also in immunocompetent subjects. Despite efforts to overcome the standard procedure by designing new non-culture methods, it is still considered that all new-rapid tests can only be a support to conventional diagnostics.
