A Insegurança Alimentar e a Ordem Neoliberal: desafios para uma agenda contra-hegemônica

This paper discusses national and foreign obstacles posed to the food security agenda by a world economic order that is guided by neoliberal principles. The present global food order has been shaped by a wide exposition of countries to foreign investors, trade, and financial flows. The supremacy of market leads the national agenda for food security and sovereignty to face growing barriers. The assessment of this is anchored on solid evidence for the increasing social inequality that stems from both an enfeebled State and the impossibility of the prevailing economic model to promote development and income distribution. Challenges also emerge within the food system itself, mainly owing to the leading role of large corporations in the entire food chain, which comprises trade patterns, productive systems and consumption.
