Síndrome de Urbach-Wiethe—Proteinose lipoidica: Manifestações Otorrinolaringológicas

EnglishIntroduction: Urbach-Wiethe syndrome (SUW), or Lipoidic Proteinosis, is a rare autosomal recessive disease described in 1929 by Dermatologist Erich Urbach and Otolaryngologist Camilo Wiethe. Clinical case: 66 years-old female patient with irrelevant personal history, reffered to the emergency department due to a foreign body ingestion. The physical examination showed swelling and leukoplakic lesions of the posterior wall of the oropharynx and larynx. The biopsy revealed the diagnosis of SUW. Conclusions: The SUW has typical otolaryngological presentations, which may point to the diagnosis, later confirmed by histological examination, with no specific treatment. portuguesIntroducao: A Sindrome de Urbach-Wiethe (SUW), ou Proteinose Lipoidica, e uma doenca autossomica recessiva rara descrita em 1929 pelo Dermatologista Erich Urbach e pelo Otorrinolaringologista Camilo Wiethe. Caso clinico: Doente de 66 anos, sexo feminino e antecedentes pessoais irrelevantes. Recorre a urgencia de otorrinolaringologia por ingestao de corpo estranho, onde e observada tumefaccao e lesoes leucoplasicas da parede posterior da orofaringe e laringe. A biopsia das lesoes revelou o diagnostico de SUW. Conclusoes: A SUW tem manifestacoes otorrinolaringologicas tipicas, que podem apontar para o diagnostico, posteriormente confirmado por exame histologico, sem tratamento especifico.
