Numerical investigation on the resistance characteristics and motion characteristics of the ultra-high-speed aerodynamically alleviated marine vehicle in regular head waves

The ultra-high-speed aerodynamically alleviated marine vehicle (AAMV) is an autonomous surface vehicle with the advantages of high speed and shallow draft. Seakeeping is one of the important characteristics of AAMV. In order to investigate the seakeeping performance of AAMV in waves, a kinetic model of AAMV in waves is established, and a decoupled numerical model based on the Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) method is developed to study the resistance characteristics and motion behavior of AAMV in clam water and regular head waves at different speeds. At the same time, the towing test of a scaled model is carried out to verify the numerical accuracy. The average errors of resistance, pitch angle and heave are 7.62%, 15.70% and 6.78%, respectively. The flow characteristics of aerodynamic wings and hydrodynamic steps are analyzed, and the aerodynamic alleviation mechanism of AAMV is investigated. By comparing the resistance, pitch angle and heave values in calm water and regular head waves, the seakeeping performance of AAMV during the whole motion process is analyzed. Compared with conventional high-speed planing crafts, the AAMV shows superior seakeeping performance.
