Humidity-tolerant sensing performance of NiO/SnO2 material for quick formaldehyde detection

As a common indoor toxic gas, formaldehyde poses a serious threat to human health. It is of great significance for the high-efficient detection of formaldehyde by non-noble metal-doped materials. In this work, we fabricated NiO-decorated SnO2 material by hydrothermal method and studied the chemosensing properties. The results indicate that NiO/SnO2-5, consisting of hollow-shaped structures self-assembled with nanoparticle, displays the enhanced response and high selectivity to formaldehyde, and the response to 100 ppm formaldehyde increased by 2.5 times. Especially, the sensor also exhibits a low operating temperature, high response to low-concentration formaldehyde and humidity-tolerant stability, implying that NiO/SnO2 material is an effective low-energy consumption material for detection of formaldehyde.
