Operation Status Identification and Fault Location of Power System Based on SVM

With the continuous expansion of power systems, the possibility of power grid accidents is also increasing which affects the system stability. It is necessary to locate the fault quickly and accurately with the operation status identification of the power system. This paper introduces an intelligent operation status identification and fault location method for power systems based on the support vector machine (SVM). Firstly, the power equipment status of power systems is identified by electrical quantity collection, preprocessing, feature extraction, and classification recognition. Secondly, the collected fault-traveling wave signals will be decomposed by variational mode decomposition, and the natural frequency of fault-traveling waves are compared to judge the fault interval and calculate the accurate fault distance. The simulation in this paper shows that the results of the fault identification and location of power systems using the proposed method are very close to the actual situation.
