Design of an Active Polarizer for Wideband Quad-Polarization Conversion

This letter presents a novel multifunctional active polarizer that can efficiently transform incident horizontal linear polarization (HP) waves into four different reconfigurable polarization modes, including HP, vertical linear polarization, left-hand circular polarization, and right-hand circular polarization modes, over a wideband range. The proposed unit has low-profile structure, and utilizes two PIN diodes to achieve phase shifts of 180(degrees) and 90(degrees) in u and v directions, allowing for quad-polarization conversion with a shared band of 8.7-11.17 GHz. Finally, a sample prototype was fabricated, and the simulated and measured results are in good agreement, proving that this design has practical applications for wireless communication systems.
