Setting Method of Line Protection with Multiple Setting Groups Based on Topological Similarity

The line protection settings obtained by traditional setting modes have poor adaptability to the extreme topology of the power grid. To solve this problem, the matrix representation of power system topology is given. With the singular value of the matrix, the topological similarity of different topologies is quantified. Then, a setting method of line protection with multiple setting groups (SGs) based on the topological similarity is proposed. The K-Medoids clustering algorithm is adopted to allocate all power system topologies into multiple subsets. Each subset includes similar topologies and then is matched to a SG of line protection. For each SG of all line protections, a multi-objective optimization model is built to determine the settings, considering all topologies in the matched subset. Simulation results of IEEE 39-node system verify the validity of the proposed method.
